Hello Everyone,
With the distribution deal for Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles now signed and a DVD release date set for November 21st many fans have questions about the film theatrical prospects. Well we’ve created this thread to answer the questions many of you are asking. I know some answers are going to sound a bit vague since the work of setting up a theatrical run is still ongoing…
So without further delay …
Will there be a theatrical run of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles?
Yes! There will be a limited theatrical run of the film!
When will the film be released theatrically? Will it come out be before or after the DVD release date?
While there is no theatrical release date at this time we can tell you the basic release schedule.
Robotech will start with advance screenings at the following locations…
MechaCon Charity Screening, Aug. 12th
New York Korean Film Festival, Aug 25, 27 & Sept. 2nd
Los Angeles Korean International Film Festival, Sept. 29 – Oct. 5th
International Horror and Science Fiction Film Festival Oct. 28 & 29th

(We hope to book the film into more festivals during the fall so keep checking Robotech.com for the latest updates. )
This will then to be followed by a limited theatrical run. Then on November 21st the DVD will be available for purchase at retailers nationwide. Do not be surprised if you see some overlap as we get closer to November.
Will the film be shown in a theatre in my city?
Possibly, it’s important to understand that Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles can only be shown in theatres with digital projection systems. (No 35mm prints of the film exist at this time.) While that may seem to limit the venues the film can screen in, there are more and more theatres slowly converting to digital every month.
Funimation is going to supply the film into theatres where there is a demand for the film to be seen. To that end, we suggest that you contact your local movie theatre and tell them you want to see the Funimation Films release of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles! Theatre owners/mangers want films that people want to see so we urge you to contact your local theatre and let them know you want to see the film.
The theatres near me do not have digital projection so I guess I’m out of luck?
Not necessarily, as I mentioned above more and more theatres are slowly already have, are converting to or researching the possibly of, digital projection systems. Many theatres are often part of a larger theatre chain and many of those theatre chains are spearheading the conversion to digital projection. So when you tell your local theatre manger your desire to see Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles on the big screen it creates a incentive for the theatre to convert to digital or have the theatre chain to book it into their theatres that already have digital projection.
Also we urge you to contact your local film festival and ask them to book the film into their festival. Film Festivals often have the equipment to screen films digitally and can easily book the film for screening well into 2007.
While Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles will not play as wide as a studio release, Funimation and Harmony Gold will make every reasonable effort to get the film into as many screens as possible.
I live outside North America will I be able to see the film?
Yes! Harmony Gold is currently in negotiations with various distributors for release of the film outside North America. Once a deal is signed we will let all of you know via Robotech.com.

We would love to get the film to Utah for a theatrical run! I would contact the theatres in Utah that have digital projection (and yes there are a few) and tell them you want to see the Funimation Films release of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles.
The more fans that let their local theatres managers know that you want to see Robotech (via a letter, phone call, or friendly chat in the lobby.) then the easier it will be for us to book into a theatre near you.

Kevin is there a way to get a list of those theaters here in utah so I and Bernard222 can start pestering those theaters. By the way Kevin I know someone in advertising  who might be able to help getting the word of the new ROBOTECH here in Utah. Just so you know, anything to help my favorate show. | |

The best way to determine if any local theaters around here (I'm in SLC as well) is to either check the movie listings online or in the newspaper and get the listed theaters phone numbers and call them, usually they'll say at some point in their recording if they have digital projection. Most newer theaters here like the Century 16 or the Carmike 16/Hollywood Connection do have DTS.
BTW, you both may want to attend Mountain-Con II next month. I will be there with others from the 501st Legion, and the con's chairman (I know him) is in talks with Kevin to see if HG will come out to it, to further promote Shadow Chronicles. | |

You can find a listing of all north american digital theatres here:

The site requires free registration to access the information.
When you reach the search area use the following:
APPLICATION: Commerical Cinema
REGION: North America
COUNTRY: United States
In the global filter fields they should read:
PROJECTION EQUIPMENT/ATTRIBUTE/ANY or select from list
Then the list of all digital theatres will come up.

Seriously MEGAPLEX has TONS of Digital Screens, surely they won't think much of it if they give up just one at selected theaters to show ROBOTECH: The Shadow Chronicles!!!
