What is d20 Robotech?

d20robotech.com

d20 Robotech is a fan site containing rules based on the d20 System and applying it to one of the best Anime Series ever created.

The first Robotech RPG created by Palladium Books is now over 20 years old. With the launch of the upcoming Shadow Chronicles Series we have decided to reinvent Robotech for the next generation of gamers.

Why d20?

The d20 system allows for a high level of versatility and customisation. Although some people dislike the d20 System it is undoubtedly the most popular system for gamers. The Open Gaming License allows for fan-based creations to target a large audience familiar with the d20 System. Besides, do you really want to learn yet another system?

So what's wrong with Palladium's System?

Fundamentally, nothing. The Palladium Rule Set works well with a game like Robotech, however, we believe the system to be somewhat limited in terms of role playing.

Who are you?

The d20 Robotech team have been Robotech gamers since its inception in the mid 80s. We have extensively played many forms of Role Playing Games and as fans understand the need for Robotech to embrace a modern RPG system.

Our hopes are that this site will grow with the help of the millions of Robotech fans and fellow gamers.

What will be on the site?

This site will provide a place for collaborative development of Robotech in the d20 System.

The site will contain

Rules
Modules
Fan Art
Fan Fiction
A forum where fans will be able to share thoughts, opinions and ideas.
So what makes d20 Robotech different?

Our motto is 'for fans, by fans'

This site will allow contributors to collaborate on the d20 Robotech project to make it the best it can be.

All information is strictly not-for-profit and feedback will be given due consideration.

We welcome all fans to contribute with development and play-testing to make this a truly international project.

When will content become available?

Content will become available as it is created and will carry version numbers to ensure players are kept up to date.

We will release content as soon as it meets our quality standards. We do not wish to release a "broken" system.

As soon as it becomes apparent that an aspect of the game is unbalanced or functioning in an unintended manner rewrites will commence. We welcome all of your feedback in this regard (both positive and negative).

The class, skill and feat system is currently 90% complete. Character creation, mecha and the combat system are currently under development.

It is our hope that we will have a playable draft of the d20 Robotech system up by the end of August 2006.

What can I do now?

Hop on the forum and start to contribute.

PS...
Well I guess most people want to know how the development is going and what changes are being made. Here is a little bit of information on the rules so far...

Races - Only two races here of course. Human and Zentraedi. Rules thus far are largely similar to the d20 modern look for humans. Zentraedi, being a war-like race have some statistical bonuses based upon whether they are male or female and of course whether they were bred for war or for intelligence. This creates some interesting choices for players considering playing a Zentraedi character. Of course, Zentraedi player characters in the RDF are not available as a choice until later in the Macross Saga. The rules will allow for those campaigns where players can be Zentraedi warriors fighting against the RDF at any stage in the Saga. This is an interesting twist which was largely unavailable as an option in the traditional RPG.

Classes - Keeping with the transverse Human and Zentraedi player options the classes had to represent character types and not military professions. The four classes are Soldier, Field Operative, Career Officer and Civilian. This option allows a character to select a training package with the RDF such as Veritech Pilot, Destroid Pilot, etc. This allows for a high degree of customisation. (I'll take a Soldier/Military Specialist - says player one. I'll stick with a Field Operative/Veritech Pilot - says player two). NOTE: Training packages are not classes but "packages" Class options number into 30 odd combinations. Prestige classes are also available (Veritech Ace, Deep Space Scout and Clandestine Infiltrator to name just a few.

Skills and Feats - Heaps, heaps, heaps... possibly too many. Play testing will sort them out...

Any suggestions???

the Macross II rpg, its the first thing I picked up and I'm currently in the process of obtaining the Robotech rpg books. But since I've read the Macross II version I'd like to use the veritech in it if it were at all possible.
