I'm not sure how I feel about this 'reunion'.
I really enjoyed the game the first time around, including most of the other palladium games, including Rifts.
Unfortunately, I think there are better systems out there that, mechanically, play better. I, too, would normally suggest RTalsorian, but they lost me with CP3 specifically, and Fuzion in general. The Mekton Z (and or II) system would have been a decent host system (which I still play, so I haven't consiously abandoned them, they just won't publish anything I want). DP9's SilCore system would be interesting, although I don't really like playing my vehicles as being just a set of modifiers, even if, illusions aside, thats all they are in any game.
But still, I am willing to buy the Shadow Chronicles RPG book when its released. Seimbeida & crew will get another chance to show me that they have revised things; otherwise its the last Robotech RPG book I'll buy from them, give up and write my own. I'm not expecting the system to be too much different from what is was (seeing as they are still using the same system from olden times); but hopefully the new products will be more faithful to the show, and future books won't be filled with so much duplicated material (the single biggest reason I abandoned Palladium altogether in the past). I'm willing to play the system if these minor things are cleared up in the new books.
I also hope they don't take a cue from WotC's newest marketing schemes of selling product promotional material at full (or nearly full) product price... ugh Another game company I'm gonna have to abandon it seems...
Please come back RTal!!!

I am a huge fan of Robotech, some of my favorite Roleplaying memories are from that game.
Someone mentioned here well Palla-dumb got the licence back because the books sold well and their past relationship.
First the ROBOTECH fan ravagishly bought the books because we love ROBOTECH and not the substandard system that Palla-dumb has out. The fans in the RPG community have waited for years for the license to leeave Palla-dumb and go to someone that actually can do something with the game.
Kevin has said on more than one occassion at GenCon ten years ago that Robotech is a dead game to him that he does not see or care to produce the books. Jeez what a swell guy and he gets to sit on his but again and get a check for making one book again and will do nothing with the game.
If you remember when Robotech had the big anniversary a few years ago, did Palla-dumb come out with any product? No, because Kevin said on his own Website the game is DEAD no direction to go with it what so ever and nothing came out.
Obviously Harmony Gold are not RPGers or they would know this. It is not their fault Palla-dumb never comes out with products on time and all Kevin wants is money to pay for his Rifts game line.
It is a bad business decision that someone that has published 9 books in 20 years of holding the license can keep the book when the same creator pops out Rifts books 1-2 times a year.
Now I own all the books even *gag* Lancer's Rockers. I am waiting for the usual, Palla-dumb multiple release dates announced until the game comes out routine. I am expecting great written background with a slow clunky archiac system that is overly developed to the point even Character Creation is a major chore with so many skills that it would make your head explode.
So for the past year and a half I have written out and sketched out my idea of how Robotech should run as an RPG using the D20 Spycraft rules. I decided no more belly aching over this game I am going to make my own game I just need help in typing material up because this will be probably a 300-400 page RPG book, but atleast I am doing something about it.
So I am writing a game that covers Invid Invasion and Shadow Chronicles with some material from Palla-dumb's Robotech books of the era. I prefer people support the game and buy the books by Palla-dumb because my system will be online and free, but you will need to buy the Palla-dumb books for the background information.
Right now I am just working on system because that should be done like a RPG book so people can understand what you are saying and easy to read. Of course I am doing this because I enjoy it and no money just a fan that is sick of substandard Palla-dumb's Robotech.
If I think it works out well enough I hope to post it for people to see, but you will need to buy the Palla-dumb Robotech books for background and get that D&D Player's Guide if you are going to play it. But the system I am making will be Character Creation, Skills, Feats, Combat Rules and REF Mecha and Enemy Mecha (Invid) and Shadow Enemy.

First off before you hammer Palladium's system, Take a good look around if you want to use a differant system Use SilCore. D20 just sucks period. and before you go off and say I don't know what I'm talking about just know this I've probably been gaming longer than you have been alive. I've played Dozens of differant systems and the AD&D/D20 system just sucks. (this comming from a long time AD&D player, I like the Concept and the worlds Just not the combat system it was always stupid and never made sense from a real world POV.) Palladiums combat system is ok. not too bad but the BEst Combat system I have ever used is Dream Pod 9's the silouhette system. it's easy to learn and works fast. the same rules you use for man scale are also used in mecha scale.

I agree that Palladium was not an optimal choice for Robotech.
I feel that the system is outdated and unwieldy. Multiple contradictions don't help.
I'd really like to have seen a new, innovative system applied to it. Barring that, there are a number of licenseable systems that would have done better. I'm no d20 fan, but I think it would have been a better- and more accessable- choice.
Savage Worlds would have worked pretty well, I think; and would better capture the wild and heroic feel of the series.
For those who'd prefer a more hard sci-fi bend on it, Alternity wouldn't be a terrible choice, though it would change the flavor a little.
In the final equation, I'll not buy any Palladium RT books because of the ugliness of the system. Were it another system? Yeah. I probably would buy it.
That's a shame. | |

Palladium Robotech was an ok system when I was 15years old. As I got older I found the Palladium system to be unrealistic. I began hate the system were armor point depletion was the only way to blow up military vehicles (mecha) since they were MDC. MDC and SDC that’s another story. Heaven forbid if you didn’t have auto dodge you were screwed.
I read that some of you have converted RT Palladium to the Modern d20 system. I play dnd 3.0/3.5, if this is anything like dnd(rolling to hit AC) hit points (aka. Armor points)them you haven’t changed much from the dreaded way of the Palladium system. It just doesn’t bring out the feel of the RT. I dislike the fact that if some one is firing at you, you can’t react by dodging.
Now this is only my opinion, but the best system to play RT to is Heavy Gear. This RPG is made by Dream Pod 9. A friend I converted RT to Heavy Gear and it was awesome.
There are no armor points to count down. When fired upon you, you can react by dodging. Unlike Palladium dodging does not use up your actions, so you can do both. You can dodge as many times as you want BUT each dodge you do you minus 1 off your total dodge and it is accumulative. If you dodge 4 times you ‘re at par for the first dodge ,-1 for the second dodge , -2 for the third dodging attempt etc. I for got to mention that Heavy Gear uses d6’s not d20’s so you don’t have 20 attempts to dodge lol. When being fired upon you either miss, you hit and the armor absorbs the damage(the round bounces off) or you hit and you do damage. There are no armor points to count down.. It is possible to get a insta kill with this system. Now your thinking that if there are insta kills this can happen to you. Yes it can but we put in a rule that if you keep 5 xp points in reserve, then you are able to punch out just before your mech blows up.
You can buy the Heavy Gear books on ebay .

SilCore is a great system, I'm still a Die Hard Palladium Rper But I also Love SilCore and Interlock. What I love about SilCore is the Opposed Skills tests and the And the Difficulty Threshold system, Very similar to Cyberpunk 2020 system. I'm even working on conversions of Battletech to SilCore. To pit Gears against Battlemechs ( Personally I think the Gears would win) (they are faster and more agile.) Then there is the Threat Value System which makes it easy for the Referee to match up enemies via threat point system.
Here is a Baby of mine.

I am using D20 because it is a faster conversion than using SilCom, which is one of the best systems out there but I am not in the mood to build things from the SilCom system.
I am familiar with it and before I got married me and my roommate would play the RPG and minatures game.
Yeah Dream Pod 9, Steve Jackson, White Wolf, Wizards, some unknown company should have gotten the game. Dream Pod 9 is the best choice of companies to do it.
I am using the Spycraft rules AEG came out with for their D20 Spycraft/Stargate game as part of my design. Hey build your SilCom system version any system is better than Palla-dumb's.

Palladium did a pretty treatment on the background and mecha descriptions. We got 3 books for macross. A southern cross book, a new generation book and several adventure books that also described major regions and had plenty of additional rules and xtras. That is pretty good, There is no way that we would have gotten that sort of stuff from any other company at the time. Steve Jackson games please... We would have gotten one crappy omnibus book at most. Look at all their other treatments.
It seems that we should want a company that is going to make a Robotech RPG a flagship line and I think Palladium will do that.

R.Talsorian Games would do an OK job too BUT, they are still having financial troubles, I mean it too then ten plus years to finally release Cyberpunk 203X aka CP V3. DP 9 would do a great job..but they wouldn't take it on. simply because they have their own product lines, Heavy Gear, Tribe 8, Gearkrig, Jovian Chronicals, and SilCore/Core Command. Palladium Did a great job with the Mecha and info on them as well Plus really cool art work. And as far as complaints to the MDC system...If you don't like it Change it. Like maybe reduce thr MDC to 10 percent and add an Armor Rating. that is the point RPG's are flexiable the rules are just guidelines and can be changed if your group doesn't like tham. The OCC concept works very well and so do the Alignments. ( usually play Aberrants, they are fun to play willing to kill whereas the princpled and scrupulous will try to bring the bad guy in alive)

I love Robotech, really do and was completely undone that Palladium had gotten this license again to produce another not truly anime, tank battling, only combat role rpg. I, as another poster mentioned, was so pleased that the license fell from Palladium. Dont get me wrong, I, like others did have a ball when i was 10 playing the Robotech rpg from Palladium and snatched up every last book that came out including the Lancer rocker book (shudder). I am not longer ten and have tried many other rpg systems which I consider superior. I am also a huge anime sci-fi fan. Palladium's Robotech is the poorest representation of what a anime rpg should be. I fear the fast play roles will be nothing more than a series of poorly handled short cuts. Leave Rifts in rifts and make a seperate game. I would have loved to see Dream pod 9, Talsorian, Guardians of Order (before going under), White Wolf and could have lived with D20 but not palladium again. I will out of curousity give it a look over when the new game comes out. We will see.

Otherwise, you are called a hater. Be warned Robotech fans.
To the Scrooges out there looking to stir up trouble,
Congratulations, you have revealed one of evil Palladium Books’ rotten conspiracies.
First, Kathy gave this customer an explanation. Apparently he didn’t like it.
Second, Kathy did not have a chance to respond to his next e-mail which she received only yesterday morning. Ironically, she was going to respond this morning. Sorry that wasn’t fast enough.
So here’s the deal with the Christmas Grab Bags.
1. We have NO IDEA how much “stuff” or which books will go into a Christmas Surprise Package. After all EACH and EVERY Grab Bag is HAND PICKED to the buyer’s “Wish List.” Some books weigh more than others. Some grab bags require more than one package (i.e. large prints, original art, odd items, may require separate packaging and extra cost to ship two packages for the one order, etc.).
We can NOT know in advance what the shipping cost will be until we pick and package the individual Grab Bag. To do so, however, would mean charging first for the Grab Bag and later (often days later) for the shipping.
This would, a) first and foremost, create a HUGE amount of extra work and time processing the Grab Bags. So many steps and work that it would make it IMPOSSIBLE for us to do the Grab Bags! We ship out 1200-2000 every season. They are a ton of work already. They cost us a TON of time already. To prepackage, weigh, list specific weights and shipping costs, give that to Kathy to place on charge cards, then wait to see if the charge goes through, then to let the shipping department (Hank and Julius) know which packages can be ship, is too convoluted and costly in time, steps and manpower/work.
b) It would cause confusion (what’s this charge on my credit card?).
c) Delay shipping by several days, making it impossible for most orders placed in December to arrive before Christmas.
d) It would make mail order impossible and telephone orders much more difficult and costly.
e) Btw, part of the shipping cost is a $3 handling fee to cover shipping materials and a tiny fraction of our work.
2. Because of the “estimated” flat price based on projected weight, Palladium does, indeed, make a little money on some packages. We also lose money on others that end up weighing more or require special packaging and handling, etc. Ultimately the cost difference is a wash. If anything, Palladium probably loses money on shipping overall.
3. The “shipping cost” is NOT a secret. It is calculated when the order is placed. YOU KNOW the price you are paying when you send the order in. There is no deception about it. And BECAUSE OF THE HIGH SHIPPING COST OVERSEAS we always try to make overseas orders extra special.
4. Even if you feel you were overcharged by what was it, $13.80 per package, it sure did NOT stop you from ordering FOUR of them. And not all at once, but weeks apart after receiving the previous ones.
Could it be because you were getting $380 worth of books ($100, $101, $96 and $83 for the four various Grab Bags – signed by us)?! Like I said, we try to make Overseas Grab Bags special to compensate for the cost. You would have paid that plus shipping if these books were purchased separately, so you still saved at least $100, not to mention the autographs. I can’t help it you live far away in the land Downunder.
You obviously felt the Grab Bags were worthwhile because you wrote the following (I don’t know what changed your mind).
“Unfortunately, I won’t be able to order anymore books from you ‘till next Grab-Bag. The postage costs works out that my Grab-Bags ordered are reflective of your standard book prices, though it would be a little more expensive to buy them at shelf prices here in Australia. I’ve appreciated the lengths you guys have gone to in order to provide me with a great selection of new Palladium gaming books, and I now have the core rulebooks for all of may favourite games, some of them, such as RiftsUE and Nightbane, I had never played before. By the way . . . I LOVE them! Best wishes to you all through the new year, and thankyou very much for being so kind with your oders. Until next Grab-Bag season, farewell.”
Yep, autographed books at below Australian store prices. We’re evil creeps, that's plain to see.
5. Where’s YOUR Christmas spirit? These Christmas Surprise Packages are OUR gift . . . our THANK YOU to Palladium fans.
We are NOT looking to make a secret profit somehow, or to take advantage of Overseas Purchasers or anyone, anywhere.
We use what little extra money we might make on some Grab Bag Orders to help out OTHER gamers. As Christmas approaches we ship a number of the Media Mail orders (super slow) via UPS at our cost so they can get them in time for Christmas. When we hear that someone’s collection was destroyed by the Katrina Hurricane, lost in a fire, or stolen, and the person seems sincere or is someone we know from the Palladium website, we send the EXTRA books and goodies. Sometimes a lot of extras. Which, in addition to the extra books, also costs more to ship. We do the same for Servicemen on duty overseas. We may do the same for teachers who are trying to start a game club in their school or use RPGs to help students read or hone their social skills.
I can hear the Scrooge's response now: “That's nice, but why should I pay to help any of those people?” I’m sorry to say my answer to that would start with an F-word.
6. We bust our backs doing the Grab Bags. We work in a cold, uncomfortable warehouse, and we HAND PICK and try to make EACH and EVERY one of them special. We sold approx. 1600 X-Mas Grab Bags this year. Each Grab Bag has, on average 5 books per bag and 99% of the purchasers want autographs (which we are happy to do). That’s 8,000 books signed by me and the Palladium Staff, and often by many more. How about factoring any of that into the shipping cost. *** And again *** that was a cost you KNEW ABOUT (like it or not) BEFORE you placed your order. There was no deception. No misrepresentation. You accepted the cost. And you were so satisfied you placed multiple orders (4) over a two month period. Give me a break.
While complaints and meanspirited threads like this one makes me angry as hell, I cannot say that doing the Christmas Grab Bags is a thankless job. It’s not. It’s wonderful. In fact, we got around 60 letters and Christmas cards thanking us for their Grab Bag. A few wonderfully crazy fans even sent us some small presents in gratitude. That doesn’t even count the dozens of Private Messages I get, the several hundreds of thanks and well wishes we get in the comments section of Grab Bag ordes, or the multitude of comments that are posted online.
Furthermore, I'd like to point out that this is one of 4-5 complaints out of approximately 1600 people who ordered, and the other complaints were about Grab Bags that got lost in the mail or damaged (which we always try to resolve, if possible), not the cost.
Here’s the bottom line.
If we have to refund people for shipping or have to stop going with a flat fee estimate and go through a couple of extra very time consuming steps, we CANNOT do the Christmas Surprise Packages any longer.
I am sorry that a month after Christmas there seems to be “buyer’s remorse.” I’m sorry you are so disenchanted that you have to try to make a mockery of something good and rip us in a public forum. I'm sorry you try to make me, Kathy or Palladium Books appear like cold-heart S.O.B.s who cheats the fans. I suggest you do not purchase any Christmas Surprise Packages in the future.
I imagine we’ve lost you and your sympathizers as fans and customers, but I hope others who ordered Christmas Surprise Packages don’t feel the same. They must not based on the kind words we hear and the multitude who order every year. We work painfully hard at trying to give back to the Palladium gaming community at Christmas time. Our goal is to make Christmas for gamers a little bit more fun and special. To put a smile on people's faces. I apologize if we have failed at this.
A shame the Christmas spirit can’t last all year long.
Sincerely,
Kevin Siembieda

While I agree some people can be jerks, I don't quite think this response was helping the situation any. Moreover, could it be that Palladium is having problems of its' own, and thus Mr. Siembieda isn't as civil as he might ordinarily be?
I'm not a fan of Palladium's work, to be brutally honest. I've examined their work thoroughly, and I'm not impressed. The game mechanics simply do not reflect what they seem to want the games to be. If you examine a character sheet, you find lots of numbers and very little of it has anything to do with roleplaying outside of combat, yet that's how they give out experience points is in a story orientated way. Despite this, if you examine their worldbooks, you find that each part of the world is almost exclusively given massive weaponry etc and is apparently poised to fight. You see lots of crunchy bits, but little flavor.
Moreover, it's plain that Harmony Gold wants to bail out Palladium again (it isn't the first time) and that they like the guys. But I don't think they deserve this treatment, since after a lot of thought I feel their products aren't good quality. I'm not trying to be a jerk, really. I don't see a lot of forethought in the game design, just a lot of really big guns and excuses to use them. If you want to make a combat orientated game, that's fine but it really should be more coherent.
Yes, I can back this up. I already have done better by writing my own Robotech game, so I'm willing to put my money where my mouth is. If this posting offends a Rifts fanboy, I'm sorry but I must speak up.
This website doesn't seem to listen to fans often, and that's so sad because it's we who have kept the flame alive for over 20 years now. I really wish they would listen to us, because we would flood them with money and dedication if they only would try.
Palladium doesn't deserve Robotech, and I honestly believe they will do anime fans a disservice if they actually do get around to publishing another edition.

A WW2 101st Airborne received a letter from the IRS. He’d be thrown in jail if he didn’t pay. He stuffed an envelope with all the $ he had. "If the IRS promises to throw me in jail, then by God come and get me!" he wrote. Never heard from them again.

Yeah yeah yeah I've heard it all before...You can do better than palladium...But here is the Skinny...they have iut and you don't. Look I'll agree that there are better game systems out ther bu8t they didn't get the license or didn't want it. DP9 has their own lines to do. RTG, is barely afloat, D20 is just LAME. Look I've probably been gaming longer than most of you guys have been alive. I've played dozens of different systems. and No palladium is not simply based on hack and slash (like the D20 system is. AD&D by any other name) remember you get 25 exp everytime you roll them bones for the use of a skill. unless your GM is a frugal jerk.

This list of problems was composed in an hour or two by myself and a friend of mine. He’s run quite a few Robotech games in the past decade or two, and he is apparently overjoyed at the prospect of using my adaptation of the D20 Modern system instead of Palladium. John detests the lack of romantic and social possibilities inherent in Palladium, but personally I just think it’s combat heavy and lacks miniatures for larger scale combats. Please note that I don’t just criticize Mr. Siembieda’s work, I offer potential solutions as well. If you want to see a sample of my work, which up until recently only concerned the game mechanic adaptations of Palladium’s original works, I’ll be sending a tiny chunk of it concerning the majority of male Zentraedi pilots immediately following this email. Feel free to constructively critique my work, or to offer suggestions. It’s still very much a work in progress.
1 The chronological timelines do not EVER agree with either the tv show or EACH OTHER. There are many discrepancies even within Palladium’s own timeline. There is lots of added info in the timeline that aren’t incorporated in other Palladium books, and even worse conflict with the game as it’s presented.
2 Each book was generated completely independently from each other, so there are many discrepancies, starting with even something as simple as birthdates. They consistently conflict with each other, to the point of confusing the storyline for the players and especially the gm’s.
3 The experience system doesn’t scale to the level of conflict in any set fashion, just vague guidelines with very low rewards. This means you rarely if ever level up. This takes away from a lot of the player’s sense of accomplishment.
4 All of a character’s abilities are assigned from the beginning, so when you do manage to level up, there isn’t much difference from the last level, and since you can’t multiclass reasonably, you can’t adapt to new situations or get retrained as in real life.
5 There is no idiot’s guide to JAG, or somewhat acceptable military behavior. It can be very short, but at least an attempt must be made. Further, the alignment system is restrictive and poorly defined at best. You don’t have ethical laws, just guiding principles.
6 What does military ranks mean? What responsibilities do you have in any given rank? There was no attempt to explain any of this.
7 If you are going to have a new major human evil organization like the EBSIS, it must have it’s own sourcebook or at least a lot of centralized material to define it.
8 Lots of new agencies and governments, but no effort was made to state where they went after initial creation.
9 What does money mean? Could you give us a shopping list of items we could buy, and their availabilities with regards to place and time? Gee, D&D has LOTS of simplistic lists like this.
10 What is the state of human society in each given locale? Could I please get more than a handful of sentences worth of info on each place?
11 Quality control would have been nice! The RDF ATP book wasn’t keyed to time with enough detail. Usable dates printed on the cover of each book which would have defined when each book was effectively in play.
12 What the hell does Mach mean in terms of spaceflight? Could you please pick metric or english measurement for distances and speeds? NOT BOTH, and not alternately!
13 Macross City was NEVER detailed as anything like a social setting, no maps nothing. Don’t you dare tell me to wing an entire city. Yet, Robotech is in essence a romance and is therefore a social setting, NOT JUST A COMBAT EXCUSE.
14 Random encounter charts are useless the way they were presented. If you are going to tell us that 6 tech bandits with whatever gear is present, could you give us the NPC’s to go with it? What’s the point of having a random encounter chart with no premade antagonists already functional?
15 Return of the Masters: Why in God’s name do you tack on a single chapter on a book and thus have a separate edition? Moreover, why the hell did they have the same ISBN number so I can’t find the more complete edition?
16 Very tiny amounts of info on NPC’s and their attitudes toward each other and anyone else. Why can’t I woo a NPC romantically? Could you PLEASE give us a system that allows us to do this in a coherent fashion other than simply giving us vague guidelines as to the rewards and how they are earned?
17 How about civilian travel by air or sea in the first 2 generations?
18 How likely is it that my mech will be refitted with ammo? How valuable are missiles? They are the most powerful weapon bar none, but how will I get replacements?
19 Using 10-15 missiles to kill ONE TARGET when in real life they take 2 at the most. Don’t tell me you are trying to make the game like the anime when it takes forever to destroy a single target and in the series it’s “the quick and the dead.”
20 Why does combat have to take forever and a day to complete a round? Couldn’t you shorten the round so we don’t lose track?
21 How about a GM’s classified book on enemies so that the players don’t know exactly what they’re up against, based on each generation?
22 How about an update on the status of individual NPC’s in the successive generation? How about a dead NPC list?
23 WHY DO WE HAVE DECK PLANS FOR THE SDF-1 ARMS BUT NOT THE SDF-1? WHY HAVE THE COMBAT STATS FOR THE SDF-1 BUT NO DECK PLANS? WHY DON’T WE HAVE ANY LAYOUTS FOR IMPORTANT TOWNS IN ANY ERA?
24 Could we please have a guideline as to what military missions are? How big are the groups sent out? What resources do we have if assigned to each mission?
25 Many important NPC’s in each era are left out! For example, Leonard himself would be nice…
26 Why do you have different xp charts for each class? Why can’t you make them equally powerful?
27 Could you please use military terminology correctly?
28 What is the chain of command for each army and generation’s division? Who is my superior officer, what powers does he have over me?
29 What are medals or ID badges do? Why are they given, and what do they look like?
30 Could you give us security guidelines; what does Top Secret mean, what’s an alert status? What do I do if I hear one?
31 How does the GM write up a military mission, and what would a mission dossier look like? How about parameters?
32 What happens if you get inside an enemy vessel bigger than the Salan Scout? How many ships in an enemy fleet, and approximately how many of each type are there? This would tell us what the total Zentraedi population on Earth is, since we would know who survived. I want details on the whole planet, not just one or two continents.
33 Could you give us decent maps, one complete map for the GM and one for the players?
34 Where did the combatants go? What happened to the Quadranos and how many were there in existence, how about the Bioroids?
35 How on Earth do you get mecha and supplies after the Invid invade? Why does Bernard and company have all this cool gear? Where does it come from, and how likely is it that I would be able to resupply?
36 What mecha would you be assigned with each posting? What mecha are at a premium, and why?
37 How about some radiation rules?
38 Skills have no degree of success, and they have an easily reached upper level cap. Even D20 Modern and White Wolf’s old and new Vampire games have degrees of success.
39 A single hit point system would be nice! You can’t tell me that 100 SDC of damage doesn’t equal 1 MDC! At least D&D has hardness to explain this problem.
40 No cultural feel for the antagonists, for example the only culture listed for Zentraedi was in the Macross 2 books and NOT in the original books. Why not place all info on each era’s bad guys in a single book?
41 It isn’t reasonable to have a handful of each enemy type in existence, but still offer full writeups. For example, there are only 3 Stage 5 Invid that exist in a single year only.
42 When does any tech begin and cease to exist? Where can I get tech in each time period? How would I know about it?
43 What kind of medical care or medication can I get in each era? What is a civilian’s life like in each place and time period?
44 How about a comprehensive tech tree?
45 How about writing books that are more detailed? I’d be happy to pay more if I knew I was getting more useful info. Hell, just get rid of the art and give me what I need to roleplay!
46 Relevant structures for the chain of command would be nice. Where do I go if I have an issue about my posting?
47 What postings exist? Why am I there? What equipment do I have? What can I buy, even just the civilian gear?
48 Say I want to get retrained. How long does that take?
49 What world religions exist? What tenets do they have? ROLEPLAYING OPPORTUNITIES ARE NICE.
50 How does each organization view each other? What do we know about the world in general aside from vague maps? What is my travel time from point X to point Y?
51 How about some survival, trading, and scrounging rules?
52 Where the hell are major sites like Reflex Point, and what resources do they have? How about GM’s info on a base’s floor plan, like Invid Hives? It’s too damn vague with what we’ve got.
53 How about a comprehensive history of Mars Base? How about a single comprehensive Robotech history for the GM that is accurate to the tv series?
54 Why does each military base exist? Why is there a base on the Moon, and what does it do?
55 How about some overall organization to the info presented throughout the series? Why do I have to hunt endlessly to find out all the info on the Zentraedi, Masters, and Invid in scattered books?
56 What is there to eat in each era? How much does it cost, and where am I getting the money? Where do I go to find the food? Why are there different skills for cooking? Basic, Advanced, Professional, what do they mean?
57 What does an Invid farm look like? How does the Invid function on a daily basis?
58 How do I do research in an post-apocalyptic setting?
59 What’s the difference between a mayor and a senator? What do they do? How does the government for each era and area work?
60 Why does each SC army exist, and could you give us a theater for each? (remember their half-assed treatment of the Sea Squad?)
61 How do I combine each mecha and pilot for the antagonists? Or could you give us premade examples like in D&D?
62 Why can’t we have guidelines for the military and romance? What’s a reasonable action for Rick and Lisa’s superiors if they argue constantly on the SDF-3? If a sergeant wants to date a corporal, what happens?
63 Why do attributes give you HUGE bonuses at the top end, but nothing in above average scores? Do I really need an 17 just to be able to charm a NPC?
64 Why are there huge amounts of classes in existence? Why do you have a zillion poorly described skills? Why can’t I multiclass to suit the needs of the situation? How about some NPC classes to handle all of the day to day routine? Why not have requirements for the skill level, NOT the class to do a job? Why do I have to be a OCC cook and not just have a cooking skill? What military rank do I need to hold an OCC?
65 How about rules for generating a NPC, town or base for detailed roleplaying opportunities, not just what it’s color is and how tall it is (Zentraedi quick start rules, I’m looking at you)?
66 How about optional rules for sex and romance? See D&D’s book of Erotic Fantasy for an okay example.
67 What incentive does a VT pilot have to shift modes? Right now there’s no point to leaving Guardian.
68 Pick a map scale and stick to it! Give us miniatures that can stack on top of each other and has an altitude meter so we can have 3d combat. A clear plastic frame around a mini would do it, along with a click meter running from 1-10.
69 Maps with some detail would be nice! I want more than just a few vague lines, what would the military have access to? Why don’t we have it?
70 What do the politics look like for each region, city, country etc? It doesn’t have to be complicated, just give us something to go on.
71 What can you get for entering Mecha Su Dai, what are the payoffs if you win?
72 A military punishment system would be nice, so we know when we do bad things.
73 Why didn’t the novels, tv series, and rpg have a single timeline? Why can’t you get together and decide on something? Could you publish an edition which is internally consistent for once, in game rules, storyline, dates, etc?

Subject: D20 Modern/Future Zentraedi male blueprint
Posted on: February 14, 2008 - 11:03:05 AM

|
|
|

Please note that this is better than just a simple series of sample NPC’s, it is instead a full blueprint that can be scaled to 1st-10th level. Moreover, while I will be making up some generic battle pilots for John to use, the skill points can be assigned to any the GM desires depending on the task they were made for. If a player wants to have a Zentraedi PC, they must specify what type, and either officer or trooper. Whichever they choose, all of their feats and classes are pre-selected up to the level of the cloned character, which is typically 3rd for troopers and 6th for officers. Thus, most players won’t want to be a Zentraedi, despite their physical advantages.
All Zentraedi have Low Light Vision, the human skill point bonus and feat, -2 Will save, Radiation Resistant mutation (reduce radiation levels by 2), Unnatural Hair, Skin and Eye Colors. Zentraedi also receive the Zero G Training and Spacer feats for free (ignore prerequisites). Terran Zentraedi after the Rain of Death usually lose their allegiance to the Masters, but not always. If they retain this allegiance, they are considered to be a Malcontent, and thus are hunted by the RDF and the fledgling Southern Cross. It’s also likely that Zentraedi can be considered sexually sterile while they retain allegiance to the Masters. Most Zentraedi will lose their allegiance to Law and replace it with nothing or Chaos (whether or not they are Malcontent) if they remain on Earth, but they do start gaining levels like normal humans. At Gargantuan size, Zentraedi may use mecha weapons so long as they aren’t powered by the mech itself. Because Zentraedi scientists are incredibly rare, all of them are “named characters,” and thus are custom creations. Zentraedi are essentially humans that have been bioengineered into Giants, no matter what their current size. Giant (Zentraedi) They age as rock gnomes, although no Zentraedi has ever actually died of old age. 99% of a Zentraedi’s life is spent in cold sleep, so while they may be hundreds (thousands?) of years old, they have only a handful of years’ experience. The Zentraedi High Command (Breetai, Exedore, Dolza) ages as metallic dragons.
Gargantuan size Zentraedi modifiers are:
32-64 feet tall
Weight 4 -31 tons
Reach 20 feet
Space 4x4 boxes
Grapple +12
Hide –12
+24 Strength
-4 Dexterity
+12 Constitution
Natural Armor +9
-4 Defense
-4 Attack
Zentraedi Appearance
This species varies in appearance, and this variance indicates their personality and level. Zentraedi are created this way, so certain colors are only available if you begin playing at this level. Yes, it’s possible to go beyond levels assigned by color with enough experience, so that accounts for variance. Many Zentraedi also have the Silly Anime Hair feats.

Dark Purple Evil alignment
Light Purple LN, N, CN, 6th level male, 9th level female

Zentraedi Male Tough Heroes (includes feat and racial but not size bonuses) approximate Earth population 17 million
If male Zentraedi exceed 10th level, they enter the Dreadnought advanced class. Note that all male Zentraedi are usually Tough heroes. This class is intended for Battle Pods(3rd level), Light Artillery Battle Pods(5th level), Heavy Artillery Battle Pods(4th level), and Officer’s Pods(6th level). All male officers have the Morphean genetech template, Micromuscles and Brain Boost nanoaugmenters (+4 Strength and Intelligence). They are usually aligned to The Masters, Zentraedi, and Law in that order. 3rd level NPC’s usually have pink skin and brown hair. Officers usually have light purple skin and black hair.
