Subject: Sounds like it was announced at the Toronto International Film Festival...
Posted on: September 7, 2007 - 12:34:45 AM

Funny enough, as im going to be there this weekend with my wife. How ironic

The link for the festival BTW...

I'll find out more at the industry locations in Toronto this weekend, see here;

If this is true, well time to break open the champagne bottles

Tobey's comments about Robotech sounds like he is indeed a fan of the franchise. You know it had to be a fan to make this happen. Everyone at HG deserves a pat on the back for this!

And in the end, Robotechs future rests in the hands of the fans, yes all of us fans, and the HG staff and those from Warner Bros

Christmas has come early

I wasn't insinuating that the report was untrue... just that I didn't think this day would come. I could have used the the analogy that Belzabub is in the market for an arctic jacket as hell has now officially frozen over.

About the movie. I have mixed feelings. But we'll leave those comments for when more details come out.

These kind of news even pulls me out of the shadows....

I'm gonna wait and see who they're having do the VFX for this production. Anyone know? I just hope that if this report is indeed true that 1) It is a quality production and 2) that Tobey may be happy to stay behind the scenes on this one, because I don't want to see Rick Hunter doing some idiotic dance number in the middle of a scene.

Gotta do some research....excuse me.

Where's the party at?...241st of course!

1.After a lengthy negotiation, Warner Bros. Pictures has picked up the rights to bring anime classic "Robotech," which featured giant robots known as mechas, to the big screen.

2.Maguire is producing through his Maguire Entertainment banner and is eyeing the lead role

3.Drew Crevello also is producing through his Supercool Hollywood BigTime Prods

4.Craig Zahler ("The Brigands of Rattleborge") has been tapped to write the screenplay.

5.Frank Agrama of rights-holder Harmony Gold will exec produce; Jason Netter will serve in a producer capacity.

SO FAR THAT WE KNOW...BUT LIKE TRANSFORMERS...THERE WERE MANNY CHANGES AT THE END BEFORE IT'S DEBUT.

WILL HE GET IT?

THING IS, I WONDER HOW MANNY ACTORS LIKE HIM WILL REMEMBER ROBOTECH. WILL HE RE WATCH THE SERIES? AND, WHAT WILL THE FANS OURIGHT THINK OF HIM IF HE GOT THE JOB?

Subject: For those who dont' know what a tentpole franchise mentioned in the article means heres a definition

Sounds like Robotech has such a potential for mass appeal that Warner Brothers are banking on that potential. This could mean that WB can see Robotech be as large as Star Wars and Star Trek. Based on that definition.

This is the reel (No pun intended) deal folks.

I say between $60 million to $150 million on just the budget for the film, if it happens to be a major summer blockbuster film that is.

We'll see what WB decides what to do here, it could be as much as Spiderman or LOTR's trilogy.

To anyone who might know according to ANN forums,

"Due to a copyright dispute that has Studio Nue and Big West, the creators and sponsor of Macross, facing against Harmony Gold's partner Tatsunoko Production, elements from Macross, the most popular of the three series, have not been used in recent and planned Robotech works onscreen."

I actually hadn't known about this and it makes me worry about how this might effect the movie. You really don't want to start a movie in the middle of the story and if this causes problems we may see a lot of changes occur to the original Robotech.

I also see this as ironic as Tony Maguire starred in Spiderman which took so long to get made into a movie due to its own movie rights getting tossed around and stuck in legal battles.

Transformers had many changes, but in the end, it came together quite nicely.

Lets hope the same happens here.
