Subject: Toynami to release Takatoku VF-1

Toynami announced today that they will begin distributing classic 1/55-scale VF-1 transformable toys based on the original Japanese molds designed by Takatoku. These toys are highly coveted among casual fans and dedicated collectors alike for their sturdiness and rarity.
The VF-1 is also widely recognized by Transformers collectors as the underlying form of the original G1 Jetfire toy. This release will mark the first time that these toys will be offered officially outside of Japan under both the Robotech and Macross brands.
Toynami will begin this summer with anniversary editions of 1/55 VF-1S and VF-1J variants and continue this fall with armored VF-1A Super Valkyries as seen in Macross: Do You Remember Love. 2009 will mark the release of 1/55 Veritechs from the Robotech television series, with plans to eventually release all known 1/55 Valkyrie toys, including rare and exotic variants.

OK...
WHAT VARIANTS?
I KNOW FROM THE OTHER TOYCOMPANY
ELENSEEKER
"OSTRICH" ORANGE ONE
WILL THEY HAVE HEAT SHIELDS?
WILL THERE PARTS BE A LITTLE BETTER FROM WHAT WE KNOW? MAYEB IN DESIGN?
THEY ARE STRONG AND ONE CAN PLAY WITH THEM RIGHT OUT OF THE BOX, BUT IF THEY KEEP THE SAME DESIGN WITHOUT EXTRAS... AT LEAST HAVE SOMETHING TO COMPESATE FOR THE HIGH PRICE.
I AM GLAD THAT PEOPLE DONT HAVE TO IMPORT COSTLY TOYS. AND MAYBE BRINGING PRICE DOWN FROM OLE SKOOL ONES. BUT IF ITS JUST SOMETHING REGULAR OUT THERE THEN GIVE IT A COUPLE OF MONTHS AND YOU WILL SEE THEM SELLING CHEAP AT THE COLLECTOR STORES. SO I HOPE THE COST IS COMPESATED THAN THE THOUGHT 'SAME OLD TOY".

$80? That's still pretty high for a domestic release! That's more then what it cost to import the 2002 rereleases! Granted the dollar is weaker now and the price of oil and shipping has gone up, but for a previously made design, I thought the price would be better.

I was surprised by the price Toynami is selling these as well. However, looking them up they seem to cost $75 or 7800Yen in Japan. They were a lot cheaper years ago, but I guess Bandai is making a point to get the max value off of these. It's a shame they gotta cost that much. I got mine for prices of 30, 40, and 50 bucks. It's cool they're gonna re-issue a lot of them, but i don't think i want to pay these new prices.

I found the regular and fast-pack VF-1S Macross-branded ones a few years ago (cost me quite a few $$$$$ at the time, too). Might be nice to have the VF-1J and/or VF-1A, though. Think I'll wait for the fast pack ones though.

I kinda have mixed feelings about this since I've been going place to place hunting out the re-releases of the 1/55 VF-1's (even on auction sites). It may decrease my value of my collections, but now I could buy more (if they don't state it's out of stock often).
I have a huge collection already of the 2001-2002 versions & I have to agree that most of them I paid ~$50-$80 (but not for the Super VF-1S & for Max VF-1J & Miriya VF-1J). I hope the $'s aren't inflated for the same ones since I would welcome the offering of these re-re-releases.
I have a hunch that the re-re-releases from Toynami won't have the "Super VF-1S" Hikaru DYRL Valkyrie or the others since that wasn't the line-up when Bandai re-release the 2001-2002 series. We'll just have to wait & see.
RT.com, just keep the $ fair & be sure to email me the new pre-orders/releases since I want to know when the other VF-1's comes out. I already have too many Hikaru VF-1J's, Hikaru VF-1A's, & Roy Focker VF-1S (Grey Valkyrie). $79 is a bit high, but for Max & Miryia VF-1J's, Super Valkyries, & new Armored Super VF-1A's DYRL, if the $ will be under $100, it's a steal for me. I've paid too much for my Max & Mirya Valkyries just to finish my collection & I'm not willing to do that again.

I THOUGHT I CAME IN TO HEAVY ON THE NEWS.
BUT YOU GUYS RIGHT THERE WITH MY THOUGHTS.
I JUST SAY THEY HAVE TO THROW MORE FOR THE COST. THIS IS GOOD NEWS INDEED. I WELCOME IT BECOUSE THINGS OUT THERE TO HARD TO BUY AND TO COSTLEY.
DOES THIS MEAN I DONT HAVE TO BUY THOSE 1000 DLR TOYS AND ONES MARKED FOR 250 DLRS AND ABOVE?
THE OUT OF PACKAGE RUNS YOU UP THERE AS WELL.
BUT I AM GLAD TOYNAMI IS COMING OUT AT A REASONABLE COST THAN WHAT IS OUT THERE WISHING WE CAN COLLECT.
NOW, THE PACKAGING....WHO WILL DO THE ART AND WHAT WILL THE GOODIES BE INSIDE THE BOX?

EDIT TO ADD...
WILL JACK ARCHER MAKE AN APPERANCE???

Why no heatshield on the VF1J?
Why are they using TV armor on the VF1A's and not DYRL armor?
Fix both of these issues, and they will have me as a customer.

Now can anyone answer me this question: Why is it that back in the '80's, the "Jetfire" Transformer toy was about $20-$30 at the stores, but now they come out with the nearly EXACT SAME MODEL (only with a different name) and are now charging $80 for it? I know I'm older now, but good grief!
It's a REAL shame because I've always wanted an intact one. The one I have is the "Jetfire" version and it is not in one piece.

You have to understand that not only has it been 25 years and the price of toys and quality has greatly changed...but you're buying what's considered a collector's item. These Valkyrie toys are being sold off to collector's. The original 1980 toys that they're based on are sold for hundred of dollars on ebay everyday. They are well aware of the kind of demand behind these toys. They know they can sell re-releases for even more money than ever before. Like many of us stated that a couple of years ago the same re-issues were sold for about 30 dollars cheaper. Now it's 2008, Transformers are bigger than ever, the economy sucks, and bigger of all is that Macross is back on the TV again. If Macross becomes popular again in Japan, the demand will be there for these old toys. This is just the price we pay for wanting discontinued toys.
P.S. A load of us pay the big bucks for all those Transformers G1 re-issues that come out in Japan too. Though the pricing is a lot better than 80 bucks a price for these valkyries...

Zor Master, the %79 price tag is about as much as they are to get the ones from overseas. It looks like what you would pay to have it sent here from Japan is the same price you'd pay to buy it here.
Another thing, this isn't a "collector's item" in the sense that it's one of a kind. Yes, it's a reissue, but not only that, it's a reissue of a reissue. So, collector's item, no, it's not. However, I do understand the inflation problem with the market. My issue I don't understand is how they can be sold at the exact same price as it cost me to get them straight from Japan? Factor in shipping vs. sales tax, and it's pretty well spot on the same price. I will be waiting for the VT-1 and the Elintseeker to come out. Glad to see they are making it out though, and that they'll be slightly more accessible than before.

Glad to see they are making it out though, and that they'll be slightly more accessible than before.

I agree completely since it's so difficult for me to find these Valkyries & available. Like I stated in my previous post, the price I paid for each the reissued Bandai VF-1's was from $50-$80 for the "somewhat common ones" to prices like $125-$200 for the "rare/highly sought after ones" (aka Max & Miryia Jenis VF-1J's). The $ is what they were going for back then as I recall. However, I won't be paying $80 for the Common VF-1A Brown Valkyrie. Somehow, I think the unpopular Brown VF-1A may be relabled to be Ben Dixon in the US....
Another thing, this isn't a "collector's item" in the sense that it's one of a kind. Yes, it's a reissue, but not only that, it's a reissue of a reissue. So, collector's item, no, it's not.

Yes, I agree with you. These re-re-reissues give others a chance to own these. The fact that I welcomed this re-re-release is that it's made way more better that the old takatoku versions. Also, I'm one that doesn't care that these are not labeled as a "collector series" as the Robotech Masterpieces (I kinda hated this where it limits the toy line up & that I joined late to this site & missed my chance of owning the "limited" sets some from the RT.com store).
For others that don't know the difference from the Bandai/Takatoku series to the other sets, here are some differences:
- The plastic don't yellow easily (I have some of my fav's out & around in sunlight & it's still in it's original color).
- As posted by another member, most of the details are etched on. No more bubbling stickers when it's old.
- The heat sheilds are easier to place on (unlike the original where you had to screw on.
- Roy Focker's VF-1S is grey & Hikaru's Super VF-1S is white as in the cartoon. (Attention to detail... )
There are many other reasons like the Bandai box (curious on how Toynami & Harmony Gold will re-box these) with the nice art work pic shots of the actual toy in action.
I must comment though, the re-releases' won't fit the old Takatoku armor (as I tried to fit the reissue Super VF-1S fastpack armor to my DYRL Super VF-1S. The new re-releases are a bit smaller. So, technically, these re-reissues are different.
