Subject: SDF Launch Part February 2009 and pre-25th 2010 aniversary warm up
Started on: June 19, 2008 - 12:46:21 PM

As we all remember and double checked in Infopedia. The SDF-1 Launched officially in February of 2009. So Who is up for a Launch Party in Celebration of the SDF-1 Launch?

What day should we have this party?
Also what kind of Party should it be?
What events can we make for the party as well?

*ponders the thought*

Many many ways to do this type of celebration. There should be no holding back on this type of party. Rent out a club, banquet hall, or hotel. Invite special guests. Include live musical performances.

I'd host a big party at my house, but a celebratory event of this magnitude should be on the same level of previous RoboCon events (RoboCon 10 & 20) .... except less of a formal convention (no panels please) and more of a party reception, w00t!

That's my opinion anyway.

If HG isn't going to organize an "official" launch party hosted themselves... then I suppose the fandom in all their respective local areas could plan their individual PARTY. We could network a webcast and show footage from all the different cities like they do during New Years

RENTING A HALL IS THE WAY TO GO. GET EVERYONE OUT TO BE INVITED AND DO A CHAREG AT THE DOOR.

MACROOS CONVENTION IS BASED IN THE SAME WAY WITH FANS DOING IT AND BRINGING IN SPECIAL GUESTS..

A MICHAEL BRADLEY SHOW TO TOP IT OFF WOULD BE NICE AS WELL.

ANY ONE KNOW ANY GOOD HALLS? WE CAN CHECK WITH MICHAEL ON THE BAND COST.

FOOD WE CAN ALL GET THAT TOGETHER.

No offense, but the webcast thing sounds a bit complicated. It might be easier to just have HG throw one big party somewhere, with paid actors in costume to mingle with the crowd .

Failing that, somebody could just throw a big house party and invite all the pplz off the forums.

we can only *hope* HG would actually spring some time, effort, money into an official event... but I'm not holding my breath. Understandably so... they've got bigger fish to fry (i.e. an animated sequel and live action movie) . It will most likely be up to the fans... again, to keep this alive.

Paid actors... nah.... invite the real ones. Southern California is home to many of the original voice actors and musical talents (many have attended fan-hosted SoCal parties before) involved with the original RT series, as well as headquarters to Hollywood for industry peeps working on future Robotech projects (Warner Bros.) I've hosted rather large Robotech house parties before (241 baby!!!), complete with a live band and special guests, but... really... this 2009 event SHOULD be bigger than that.

Cosplayers would be definitely be the added touch for entertainment to mingle in with the crowds.

Memo, I'll be writing up an email to you soon with some specific ideas.

My question here on the forum... how many NON-So CAlifornia fans would make a trip out here? I know of a few already (241 squadron- roll call time! 'ten-hut! Sound-off!)

1...If we do it at a house party then we were thinking of having a Macross Marathon going on throughout the day, and having Boobytrap play and games and you know our normal off the wall fun!!
But I would want EVERYBODY to be invited Viv, you know what I mean and if not email me...

2...Intriguing the Hall idea...We have to find our how much a hall is and if we can do it for the whole day and stuff...The hotel I had my reception at in Long Beach is nice...maybe we could get a cool deal because we got married there (well the reception part anyways)...That might be alittle be more complex...but doable...we just can have the famous "Carne" and an event of this magnatude NEEDS THE CARNE ASADA!!!

Anyhoo...Whichever way we decide to do this thing let me know and I am in...Hunter can I can finally have it out as to who is the TRUE ROBOTECH UBER GEEK!!! NONJA!

I'll have to keep my eye on this thing. I might be willing to make the trip. Especially if it is on Feb 17th. That is a three day weekend for me because of Presidents day. If you have it on Sunday the 17th, it gives me a day (sat) to drive there, a day to party (sun), and a day to drive home (mon, after sobering up).

That is a good weekend. That gives people plenty of time to socialize and such.

Also to add to this Topic another question. If we don't do it at a hall we need a place, So who thinks they have a good place? I know I have 1 acre of land and plenty of room for event stuff.

this sounds like it'll be fun, no matter what turns out happening. I'll start saving some money now, so's I can get down to L.A. come February.

Maybe there should be a big SDF-1 cake?

About 2 years ago (maybe 3???), jasonc hosted a party at his L.A. house and there was a group of Robotech fans who drove down with a full blown SDF cake- with a bridge, gun turrets, and all! It was awesome! There's pics floating around in someone's online photo album somewhere. I'll see if I can dig those pics up.... and find out who that couple was that baked it!!!! It was also one of the fan parties that Dan Woren came to- I KNOW someone has pics. The cake was yummy too!

Dart> good pick for the weekend! Let's do it.

Memo> I got your reply email this morning. I'll hit you back up later.

Seifrietti Weisse> that would be awesome to see you and your family again! I plan to have my entire family cosplay for part of the event- hope you guys do too!

moongirl> hope you can make it!

Hope alot of fans make it... this 2009 Launch party should hold us over rather nicely until the 25th anniversary in 2010 for RoboCon25!!! but that's another topic for another day.

wow, I'd say def' get a hall for this price wise i think the socal ppl have to see whats up with it. Gotta get a total for the hall, music can be done cheap but, the hall (location) would be the main thing to get.

Getting the round up money from everyone whos willing to pay could be easy. If ya have a paypal bingo.
And if you just live in the area we could get a meetup just to get to the person whos going to rent the place.

I dont know if theirs a hall where it has abit of a patio type area so memo can do some grillin'

um but ya i would be happy to see something happen. and i could actually show u that sdf1 picture once i get home and find it but, theirs actually another sdf1 cake that happend b4 that one too lol damn im such a young-ol'timer in this site

Maybe we can get an event coordinator as well. Someone we can trust with a Paypal Donation setup to help pay for the hall. Or at least raise funds for all the food and drink. I am willing to donate money and stuff.

I would Vote For Viv and Joe to be the donation Coordinator. They are some of the best Group of people I would trust with an event setup.

Click on "Locations" on the left side of

for phone#, etc.

Riverside, Chino Hills, or West Covina locations would probably be the best choice for the majority of SoCal fans.

As you can probably guess, the only reason I know about this place is because I live close by. Close enough to get stuck in traffic on game days.

VIV AND ME E-MAILING BACK AND FORTH ON SETTING UP THINGS RIGHT FROM THE START.

COMMETTE TO BEGIN WITH AND TO FOLLOW UP WITH ORGANIZING THE EVENT.

SO PLEASE HANG TIGHT. WE ON THE BALL.

WHAT WORRIES ME THE MOST IS THE HALL AND FALLING ON A HOLIDAY.

THE COST WILL BE MORE THE MORE WE DELAY ON TEH DATE. BUT WE CAN GET IT DONE.

BUT KEEP THE IDEAS COMING. SSON WE WILL GET MORE PEOPLE INVOLVED AS SOON AS WE GET THE LIST IRONED OUT.

AS YOU CAN SEE ME AND VIV RIGHT ON TOP OF IT AND WE WANT THIS THING TO BE THE BIGGEST AND GREATEST EVENT.

BUT LOOKS LIKE FEBUARY HOLIDAY WILL PLAY INTO OUR DESICION OF SETTING TEH DATE. LETS JUST HOPE ECONOMIC WISE WE CAN MAKE IT WORK FOR EVERYONE. SAVE UP YOUR CASH FOR THE BEST PARTY TO COME.

IF YOU HAVE MAD SKILLS IN EVENTS, LET US KNOW.. THS IS FUN IN A WAY, BUT WHEN THINGS HAPPEN, WE NEED STRAIGHT HEADS TO KEEP THE SHIP MOVING AND TIGHT.

HERE'S FOR A GREAT EVENT!!!!

Darrtallion- thanks for the vote of confidence I'm happy to get this ball rolling. I've got the experience. Like Memo said, we're on it. I'm drafting up checklists and contracts as we speak. As Punkr pointed out, the biggest thing will be the location rental and budget... thus the need for contracts (going to hit up some potential event sponsors).

We'll have more details as things get penned down on paper. February really isn't that too far away when you consider what all needs to be done. Consider the ball rolling.... fast.

Ok so back to the point. Another thing is to get the word out on this because, with more ppl the cost per person would def go down. So once theirs a place for it and a number to it, it will be part of all our jobs to spread the word out.
