I'd hedge my bets on Marcus being another repaint. Since these are Robotech paint jobs instead of Mospeada paint jobs, there will be very little, if any, market for them in Japan. Don't expect an actual production run.

I got mine, and I must say I am disappointed. I don't mind the paint job although they 'missed' while painting in some gold parts. The model is incredibly stiff; hard to transform and is generally not a pleasure to work with. The VF series had a much more intuitive method of transformation and is far more forgiving. The hands are flimsy as well and do not fit the gun pod. The sensor pod is slathered in paint which made the antenna stick in the down position and required sanding almost to allow the peg to fit in the mounting hole. If I had been on the QC line and had picked out the one I had gotten, I would have sent it back to the defect pile as soon as I tried to extend the legs.

As for the intakes, I hope that HG sends a fix kit, for free, to all who ordered this thing. (I'd make the model company eat the cost on that, if it were up to me.) Also I hope they beat the model makers about the face for making such a shoddy product that is one step below a non transformable stand alone piece. A nice nasty-gram is in order to their quality control department for letting so many 'defect' pieces to get shipped.

Not only intakes, this kit must provide:
- New intakes type "shadow".
- New part with a hole (for put the gun in fighter mode)

Looking at the pictures Bastien posted, this thing is pure crap.

No excuse. Toynami should be embarrased. This pretty much cancels out the Beta fighter in my book and Toynami is back where they were a year ago.

This will be the first Toynami product I will skip and I'm a completist...

In fact you`re climbing down"

I cancelled my beta order because of being burned so many times by toynami in the past, so I thought I would wait for reviews this time. Im glad I did, from what I hear, they really did put the effort into the beta because it was the start of a new toy. So I will be ordering it, but for the Alphas, this is the same thing they did to us with every piece in there line, starting with the first MPC. Give us hope that the next one will be better. After 9 previous MPC's(if you can even call them that) and 3 crappy armor sets, they have proven that they will NOT go back and fix a toy they already have a production run on. so I dont expect the marcus to be any differant. Even if they fix the vents, will that make up for all the other QC issues it has. If I have to, ill order 10 and frankenstein me the best alpha I can and send the rest back. Its crappy that I have to do that.

Heh, that's funny. I had to do exactly the same thing with my Shadow Fighters - turn two of them into one good one.

On the other hand Robotech.com was fantastic about sending me replacements for the defective toys. Too bad their awesome customer service is forced to deal with such crummy products.

So I was wondering if anyone actually got a piece that, overall, is of passable quality. Or, are most people that are even willing to buy it just keeping it sealed like me? I have every MPC and bought an extra Shadow Fighter in the past to open but ended up selling it because it wouldn't transform back into fighter mode.

"VTOL vent delete... somehow?"

i saw this problem but the VTOL can be removed easily..

However, i don't understand something...
I looked pictures from "American Toy Fair 2007", it was the good version of Maia's shadow fighter, but one year later, at American Toy Fair and ComiCon 2008, it's the Bad version a VFA-6Z painted in pink.

So no one at Toynami or RT/HG didn't saw the problem?
I read the card in the MPC box, Steve yune, you are in charge of product development, isn't it ?

After my beta arrived I was so impressed that I thought I would order this one as well, but now after reading about all the quality problems and the fact its got the wrong intakes! (why wasnt this spotted before it was put into production) I think I will wait and see if they release a 'new/fixed' version, if not then this is one that I will not be buying.

Is a shame cause I really like the look of it.

I have been in contact with Toynami about my Maia MPC. The forearm broke and the shoulder came apart. I am shipping it out to them today and I was told that their modeler will take a look at it to see if it is repairable. If not, they said it will be replaced. I found a couple more issues that I emailed over to them about the plane so that they can look them over as well. Personally, I would prefer the modeler to fix the plane, that way I know everything works.

That sounds like typical toynami response that they have given with all their MPC's, what they will do is send you another one and hope it has less problems. I guarentee it.

why does quality control always seem to be an issue? the garland had faulty plastic parts ,the shadow fighter "sue graham" missile covers broke off after opening them up carefully once!! annoying. don't get me wrong better then nothing but I've never had this issue with other "Macross" or Mospeda items brought in Japan

Big Robotech Fan, Lost to Macross , but come back for the brand!!

It says 'Sold Out' but then says check back soon for more info, so maybe they have 'pulled' it while it is fixed and then it will be re-released!

Hope so, can we get any offical word on this?

Perhaps but this message is a a classic message for all product who are "out of stock", so wait and see...

But it' will be a very good thing if Mr Steve Yun answer us. Mr Yun, you are in charge of "product development" so I think you must give us some explanations...

All fans know fews problems on the first 4 MPC Alpha, we know all BIG problems of Legioss Aoshima, and there a lot of problems with this new MPC...
So how is possible ? Who is responsible ?

Subject: Toynami is replacing the MPC
Posted on: January 9, 2009 - 2:08:40 PM

mallory74 you were right on the money. They are going to send me a replacement. I asked to have them transform the plane into all modes to make sure that it does not fall apart on me again. They said that they would.

The actually response was, "We are currently doing a full inspection on all of our Maia Fighter stocks to find the undamaged ones. Once we pull one aside, I'll ask our sculpture to transform it to make sure it doesn't have any problems."

So, maybe the "Out of Stock" listing in the RT.com store for this product has more meaning to it than it usually does.

I know that there are issues with the Maia MPC, but Toynami Customer Support has been great. They have always responded within a couple of hours to my emails. Believe me, I have sent them a bunch asking a lot of questions.

Oh, I also asked them about replacing the Apha intakes with Shadow ones. I know Tommy Yun mentioned further up in this topic that they were looking into it. So I figured since I had a chance, I would ask the manufacture.

I’ll let you know what happens.

Ya know, my problem isnt against the customer service at Toynami, Im sure they are great people working really hard. I actually feel sorry for them having to put up with all these problems thier company is causing. Kind of like being the press secratary for the Bush administration. My problem is that the problem with the product isnt that they were DAMAGED, in order to be damaged, they had to be good at one point, all their product with the line has come out this way, some less messed up then the others. I dont see them testing it out before they send it, but ill keep my fingers crossed for ya. Everytime you call them they smile and will be real nice, but in the end they have the same product to work with and a lot of people complaining, so I dont think they will check everyone before they send them out, it would be nice.
