Hi, if they get around to the Sentinels, what is your guidelines that you would set as a fan's expectations.
....
*Mine are:
1.) Lisa and Rick break up and Rick goes back to Minmei.
2.) Khyron comes back in an episode entitled "Season's Greetings: Easter treat."
3.) The characters wear Star Trek uniforms and follow the prime directive.
4.) Steve Yun humors us and does a cameo appearance, as a voice actor for Kyle.
5.) Dana's little sister turns out to be psychicly powerful.
6.) Alien species pop out of the woodwork to join on the fight against the horrendously evil and least human-looking Invid.
7.) The Regis goes to earth in a stream of lasers. (beats air travel)
8.) Rick Hunter's children lovingly preserve his brain and innards for future resurrection.
*Hope this shows what the ONLY limitations and objections I'd have to a completion of the Sentinels. ;)

I remember long ago reading the paperback novels of the Sentinels series. I'm actually hoping that they stick to the events in that series!

how hard it would be managing to do that might be why it was decided to do the "true sequel" following Scott's adventures instead?

Hopefully, they will keep the same alien species, perhaps modifying a few of them.
Because if they introduce new alien races, what we will do with all the info we have on the Kabarrans, Praxians, Gerudans, Haydonites, etc?
And where's Edwards?! C'mon, give us Edwards! Hated him in the novels, rotten smug little @#&%$!
I would like to see Rick clean his clock for real!

LIST your favorite parts of The Sentinels movie or novels. That way we can see what is the consensus on the Expeditionary Fleet's canonity/background. That should be set before they actually make flashbacks into the storyline of Robotech2004.

I would like to see the spacefold jump that was made in the sentinels book #1 to when they arrived in Tirol or if anything anything from World killers book #4 sentinels that was one of the best written novels of the entire series.

Are they "officalyly 86ing the whole Sen. time line? If so welll thats not such a bad thing..
but on the other hand there were some solid moments,,,Edwards the SDF3 looked cool and some other stuff I liked But if we are killing the Rick and lisa thing what the hell is the reasoning for it...
But if if we are looking at the suggestions for plot i want to add someting .) The Regis goes to earth in a stream of lasers. (beats air travel)
And then becomes a God to millions of over 60 women as he begins his talk show in the morning Live with Regis and Minmi....

Right now, at least with the novels, things are a bit off.
Biggest Gripes as of right now -
Carpenter's ship should have left Earth with the SDF-3 as was pretty much stated by Carpenter's first officer and not an experimental ship as it was portrayed in the Sentinels. I mean come on, the Masters mopped it up. Why would the REF build a big piece of junk? At least with an explantion of it being 15 or so years old, we could say it was out of date.
The REF Fleet. I would say that most of the REF Fleet should have been constructed in Earth orbit and not at the far reaches of the galaxy by a group of aliens. It just doesn't work. The crew (at least from what we see) is human. And surely the SDF-3 did not have enough crew to man an entire fleet. The most pluasible explantion. The REF Fleet (Carpenter's ship included) left Earth with the SDF-3 to search for Tirol. It makes perfect sense and it also explains why Leonard and the Southern Cross are not equipped to deal with the Masters when they come.

Subject: Robotech4 should acknowledge The Sentinels' story

Since protoculture is supposed to be gone at the end of the novels, with humanity's evolution having had "a leg-up" with the SDF-3's psychic children, with the Zentraedi all but extinct and the Masters destroyed, with all the Flowers of Life back on Optera under the care of the "back to pre-Zor state" Invid and the watchful eye of the Praxian amazones, with Rem and Minmei on their private island-world back to a time before the galaxies, it would take quite a plot twist to redirect the post-New Generation world toward robotechnology again. But to find that twist will be worth it.
Of course, plenty of side stories, like those previously put forward here, are possible. But the grandeur of the first 4 interlocked series demands a story as profund for the backbone of the new sequel. A story of which, a little like X-Files and the original Robotech, we don't quite see the whole picture until the end; a story where the protagonists are motivated by something other than "conquest". Still, such a story wouldn't be interesting if it didn't have great and scary villains each with their own motivations (like in Robotech, Star Trek II, Star wars etc...).
That recipe was why Robotech was loved and developped a cult-like following among children and teens and adults. We each found something to like from the animation to the characters, from the battles to the hidden story common to the 4 series. If the powers that be only think about a new sequel to sell merchandise to kids at the highest possible profit, I'd say that they would lose 90% of the present-day fans.
The higher road (of complex storylines unified at the end, and building on the story of the first 3 generations and the Sentinels) is more difficult, has more risks and will cost more to make. But I'm sure the results will not disappoint the owners of the franchise.

Scott's relationship with Marlene and her being an Invid would make a nice story arc. Scott should appear a little bit in the "where did the SDF-3 go" part, but outside of his story arc he shouldn't take up too many scenes because there's a lot of other pre-existing Robotech characters that get their own cameos. A trilogy of sagas would be nice because then there's time to deal with everything.
Saga 4: Tie up some loose ends with old characters and introduce new characters. A second plot begins that will not involve the old characters very much. It's mostly about the saga 1-3 characters at the beginning, but the new characters take over the story toward the end of this saga. Toward the end of this they also have completely new mecha.
Saga 5: This plot continues and more characters are introduced to join the characters introduced in Saga 4. There are a small handful of cameos of characters and mecha from sagas 1-3 in this, but by now they are mostly gone, replaced by new characters, mecha, and situations. This part needs lots of action and dramatic relationships where you don't know who's going to end up with who. Move the plot along with action instead of old men sitting at a table discussing politics. Look to Empire Strikes back for how to make a middle saga and anime like Maison Ikkoku, Kimagure Orange Road, and Marmalade Boy for how to handle the relationships.
Saga 6: There are very few cameos of characters from Sagas 1-3. Most of the characters from Saga 4 are gone. The characters from Saga 5 take over the story. There are supporting characters, but they probably wouldn't be the main characters of a saga 7. This saga should not end on any cliffhangers just in case this needs to be The End. Ideally, there should be a few movies inbetween these sagas or at least one movie at the end.

ric17 is right. Its not a unique ship. Its the Tokugawa-class Super Carrier. Major Carpenter's aide states its been their home for 15 yrs...which would put its commisioning date sometime in 2014, probably just after the Battle for New Macross.
Not only that...the Army of the Southern Cross has at least 2 in its arsenal that they bring out for the final battles against the Robotech Masters.

between what I'd like to see as a fan (Scott, Marlene, and Dana star in the series, kick butt, take names and meet the superkawaii Emaan from Orguss. Scott and Marlene get each other, Rick gets killed horribly and ignominiously, Dana either gets a really cool boyfriend or a tearjerking death scene. Or both.) and what they're likely to do that I'd be more or less cool w/. Before I get started on the latter, I should emphasize that I am inclined to think they will allow Tatsunako to release RT04 in Japan as a non-RT, non-Macross series, and won't do anything that would bring Big West down on Tats.'s ears (well, any more than they have already).
-Rick and Lisa are pretty much givens, Minmei is probably out-she's such an icon in Japan that Big West would fight tooth and nail over anything remotely recognizable as her-Rick's a pretty generic anime hero, and Lisa's been hommaged enough in other anime to where a couple of fiftysomething chars. who look like Hikaru and Misa wouldn't be that big a deal.
-Assuming they attempt to tie up the loose threads and mysteries left by SOL (there is some very marginal evidence of this, in the form of "The Legend Lives On" and the hints that the Regiss's motives in leaving earth are somehow relevant to what's going on in RT04), Scott, Marlene and the Regiss are strong possilibities. Yellow's cult status in Japan and Yune's alleged soft spot for Sera makes those two contenders also.
-all of these, will, however, be supporting characters surrounding a new protagonist and his friends. That much I am certain of. Personally, I think they could have a lot of fun w/ a Rand-like rascal who joined the REF for a soft bed and three meals a day, with Squadron Leader Bernard on his case and maybe Marlene as his unattainable crush.
-SC will be represented by whoever Yune (or Yun or Bateman) has a soft spot. My money being on Nova, or possibly "blank slate" Allegra. Dana's a longshot at best.
-It will keep the surface connections to the past RT sagas fairly straightforward. Something on order of: the Invid, who conquered and occupied earth, left mysteriously and we'll eventually find out why; that guy over here hates their guts but has a thing for this one Invid chick, accordingly their relationship blows kind of hot and cold; oh yeah, and here's our warrior-allies the Zents, who also hate the Invid (and who've been scaled down to about fifteen feet tall to keep the "giant" mystique w/o treading on BigWest's toes but ignore that). That seems unwieldy when I put it like that, but it is a). an extreme abbreviation of the relevant pieces of backstory and b). something you could comfortably fit into a three-ep story arc/series opener.
-The premise will almost certainly be some sort of riff on Macross-aircraft carrier in outer space, w/ somewhat more surface action (or perhaps some shipboard mutinies-either way, they have Cyclones in the sequel, so they presumably have someplace to use 'em). We will probably also see Macross's "hot-rod paint and body shop" approach to the fighter jets, with lots of flashy custom paint jobs, and booster/armor external upgrade packages, unlike the more sensible approach favored by SC and NG.
-we will probably see plot elements borrowed from the Sentinels rather than acknowledgements that the Sentinels happened more or less the way the noncanonical video and the noncanonical books say they did. In other words, we're more likely to see some version of the Regent, alive and kicking and engaged in a DYRL-style war of the sexes w/ the Regiss, than we are to hear a bald statement that the REF fought defeated some unseen "Invid Regent".
-As for them doing some version of the Sentinels, well, I'm not terribly interested, so I don't really care. I'd prefer a more intimidating version of the Masters' culture than they went w/ in the original Sentinels, and some use of the cool "proto-Mospeada" designs: the ConBat/Condor, for instance, or the so-called Mospeada Destroids. And genuinely alien species and societies-neither bumpy-faced Trekkian humanoids, lame rip-offs of non-human terrestrial species ala Original Sentinels, nor Monsters of the Week that look like Picasso paintings (I hated, hated, *hated* that aspect of Evangelion. Even more than most people hate Shinji.)

I think that if they were to finish the Sentinels, then they should follow the plot of the McKinney Books.
I think of the books as an expanded version of the seris. Just like when any book becomes a movie it differs, but the book remains the main source.
This would explain the comments that carpenter's and bernard's crew say about being born in space.
Just my opinion though.

Here lie the Super Dimentional Fortresses 1 and 2, along with the battle cruiser that destroyed them - Macross, thrice-born, never forgotten.
