FAQ - The Shadow Chronicles

Q: Hey guys! Does anybody have background info about the new series???? Who will be the main characters?

  - Stemali
A: Harmony Gold recently completed production of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, the highly-anticipated continuation of the epic Robotech saga. Featuring a cast of characters reprising their roles from the original series, the story picks up from where the 85th (and final) episode of the television series left off with the Robotech Expedition's climactic confrontation with the Invid and the mysterious disappearance of Admiral Hunter.

The new adventure kicks off with an award-winning animated feature that was first shown in Cannes and a series of independent film festivals across North America. FUNimation Entertainment released Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles theatrically in January 2007 and on DVD in February 2007! Madman Entertainment will release the DVD in Australia on March 14, 2007!

Q: Does anyone know what the Shadow Chronicles DVD special features are gonna be like?

  - LawgSkrak
A: Here is a breakdown of the contents of the "Robotech: Birth of a Sequel" featurette that will be included on Funimation's DVD release of Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles. Total running time of all the sections is about 45 minutes. Madman's Australian release may have a different menu system and slightly shorter running time due to PAL conversion, but will probably contain the same contents.

Q: Robotech ... The Shadow Chronicles? Wasn't there an early announcement of something called Shadow Force at AnimeExpo?

  - Aragonvaar
A: Though the feature-length pilot of the new sequel was initially announced as Robotech: Shadow Force, the growing scope of the project led to titling the overall story arc as Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles.

  - sknight336
A: In episode 83 of the New Generation, Sue Graham provides an overview of the technology of the Shadow Devices, which are used by Shadow Fighters to hide their protoculture power sources from detection.

Q: The movie was great. I understood all of it ... was it just me, or was it different from the books after about the first hour?

  - MatthewPapa07
A: Carl Macek's notes for a continuation of Robotech after The New Generation and The Sentinels were loosely adapted into the 1989 novel The End of the Circle, which looped the Robotech saga into a circular storyline, though in a different manner than Macek had intended. Fans of the Jack McKinney novels may recognize some of the story elements in Robotech: The Shadow Chronicles, but the forthcoming story arc will take a new and different direction from that of the novel.
